Remote Support Guide

Use this guide when you need to help a user or inspect a remote Windows device through Lanview.

Lanview includes several remote access and remote administration features. Choosing the right one matters because each feature has different permissions, policies and audit behaviour.

  1. Confirm whether the task is user assistance or device administration.
  2. Use Remote View when you need to see the logged-in user's visible desktop.
  3. Request Remote Control only when interaction is required and permitted.
  4. Use Remote Desktop for Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol administration sessions.
  5. Use Remote Console or Remote Commands for command-line administration.
  6. Use feature-specific pages, such as Services or Event Viewer, for targeted administration.
  7. Review audit and reason requirements before high-impact actions.

Permissions and policy

Remote View, Remote Control and Remote Desktop use different permissions.

Remote Control requires its own permission and must be allowed by the current Lanview configuration. Remote Desktop permissions do not automatically grant Lanview-native Remote View or Remote Control access.

Agent policy may affect user-session behaviour, including consent and notification behaviour where configured.

Audit and security

Remote access attempts, control requests, permission denials and sensitive actions are audited where catalogued. Reason prompts may apply.
