Feature Overview: Inventory
Lanview inventory provides collected hardware and software information for managed Windows devices.
Inventory is useful for device review, support, reporting and troubleshooting. It gives administrators a structured view of what is installed, what hardware is present, and what device information was last reported to Lanview Server.
What this feature area includes
Inventory includes:
- Hardware inventory for individual devices.
- Software inventory for individual devices.
- Aggregate hardware and software views.
- Inventory refresh for individual devices.
- Inventory refresh for groups.
- Export support where available.
- Hardware Support Links based on inventory information.
Hardware inventory can include system details, operating system information, processor and memory, storage, network adapters, video, monitors, printers, battery and related hardware metadata.
Where to find it
Inventory appears in several places:
- Inventory in the main Studio navigation.
- Device Window > Hardware Inventory.
- Device Window > Software Inventory.
- Related Device Window pages such as Disk Usage, Network and Security.
Hardware Support Links may appear from relevant hardware inventory contexts where configured.
Permissions and access
Inventory uses separate permissions for viewing and refreshing hardware and software data.
| Permission area | Controls |
|---|---|
| Hardware inventory view | View collected hardware data. |
| Hardware inventory refresh | Request a fresh hardware scan. |
| Software inventory view | View installed software data. |
| Software inventory refresh | Request a fresh software scan. |
| Hardware Support Links | Open or manage contextual support links. |
Export access should be treated carefully because inventory exports can include detailed operational information.
Policy and settings
Inventory refresh can be targeted at devices or groups.
Inventory data should not be treated as real-time unless the page or action has explicitly refreshed it. In normal use, inventory reflects the most recently collected or refreshed data.
Inventory refresh does not use a general inheritance policy.
Audit behaviour
Inventory refresh requests are audited where catalogued. Viewing inventory is not generally described as a state-changing action.
Inventory exports can contain device names, serial numbers, installed software and other operational details, so they should be handled as internal administrative data.
