Installing Lanview Studio

Lanview Studio is the Windows administration application used to manage Lanview.

Use Studio to connect to Lanview Server, sign in, view devices, manage groups, review inventory, perform support actions, manage security and configure supported settings.

Before installing

Before installing Lanview Studio, confirm:

  • Lanview Server has been installed.
  • The Lanview Server service is running.
  • You know the Server host name or IP address.
  • You know the Studio and administration port, normally 45751.
  • Your Lanview account has permission to sign in to Studio.

Install Lanview Studio

Run the Lanview Studio installer on the administrator or support workstation.

Lanview Studio installs as a Windows application. It does not install a Windows service.

The application files are installed under:

C:\Program Files\Infinityscape\Lanview\Studio\

Studio stores its own local application settings and logs under the current user profile.

First sign in

To sign in:

  1. Open Lanview Studio.
  2. Enter the Lanview Server host name or IP address.
  3. Confirm the administration port if prompted.
  4. Sign in using a Lanview user account.
  5. Complete two-factor authentication if required by your configuration.

The areas visible in Studio depend on the permissions assigned to the signed-in user.

Server trust

When Studio connects to a Lanview Server, it may ask the user to confirm trust for that Server.

This protects against connecting to an unexpected Server. Administrators should confirm that the Server identity is correct before trusting it.

If the trust prompt appears unexpectedly for an existing Server, check the Server configuration and follow your organisation’s support or security process before continuing.

Permissions and visible modules

Lanview Studio uses the signed-in user’s effective permissions to determine which modules and actions are visible.

Examples include:

  • Devices.
  • Groups.
  • Tasks.
  • Packages and deployments.
  • Scripts.
  • Monitoring.
  • Security.
  • Settings.
  • Studio Console and AdminConsole.

Two-factor authentication

If two-factor authentication is enabled, Studio may ask the user to set up or verify a second factor during sign in.

Administrators with the appropriate permissions can manage user two-factor resets through the Security module.

Studio settings

Lanview Studio has local settings that apply to the current Windows user and Studio installation.

These are separate from Lanview Server settings.

Server settings affect the Lanview installation as a whole and require the relevant Server permissions to view or change.

Troubleshooting sign in

Studio cannot connect to Server

Check that:

  • Lanview Server is running.
  • The Server host name or IP address is correct.
  • The administration port is correct.
  • Firewall rules allow Studio to reach the Server.

The user can sign in but cannot see expected modules

Check the user’s assigned roles and effective permissions.

Module visibility is controlled by Lanview permissions. A user may be able to sign in but still have limited access.

Two-factor authentication cannot be completed

Use the organisation’s Lanview security administration process. An authorised administrator can reset a user’s two-factor authentication state where required.
