Glossary
This glossary defines common Lanview terms used across the documentation.
AdminConsole
A local command-line administration tool installed with Lanview Server. AdminConsole is used on the Server machine for local administration, bootstrap and recovery tasks.
Agent
Lanview Agent runs in the signed-in user session on a managed device. It supports user-session features such as displaying messages and assisting with supported remote support features. It does not replace the Lanview Client service.
Audit event
A recorded Lanview action or outcome, such as a login, device approval, policy denial, remote support request or settings change.
Audit reason
Operator-supplied text explaining why a sensitive action was performed. Reason requirements are controlled by Lanview Server settings.
Client
Lanview Client is the machine-level service installed on managed Windows devices. It connects outbound to Lanview Server and carries out approved device-side actions.
Command reference
The documentation area that lists Lanview console commands, syntax, permissions, audit information and source restrictions.
Device
A Windows computer managed by Lanview.
Device approval
The process of approving a newly connected or previously rejected device before it can be managed normally.
Device Window
The Lanview Studio workspace for a single selected device. It includes summary information, inventory, services, event logs, packages, audit history, settings and remote access pages, depending on permissions.
Effective value
The value Lanview actually uses after applying defaults and any supported group or device overrides.
Group
A Lanview grouping of devices used for organisation, targeting and feature-specific overrides where supported.
Lanview Server
The central Lanview service. Server manages central management state, permissions, audit records, settings, package repository data, device approval and command dispatch.
Lanview Studio
The graphical administrator application used to manage Lanview. Studio connects to Lanview Server and uses supported Server interfaces.
Permission
A named capability that allows an operator to view or perform a specific action. Permissions are granted through roles.
Remote Console
A Lanview device administration surface for remote command-related work. It is distinct from Studio Console, AdminConsole and Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol.
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol. Lanview can use RDP-related settings and features, but RDP is separate from Lanview-native Remote View.
Remote View
Lanview-native viewing of a managed device’s visible desktop from Lanview Studio.
Remote Control
An escalation from an active Remote View session that allows an authorised Lanview Studio user to interact with the visible desktop when policy and permissions allow.
Role
A collection of permissions assigned to Lanview security users.
Studio Console
The console workspace inside Lanview Studio. It allows permitted users to run supported Server commands through Studio.
Wake-on-LAN
A network feature used to send a wake packet to a device. Lanview can send Wake-on-LAN packets, but success depends on device firmware, network adapter and network configuration.
